That setting means those posts are using the legacy attachment query function of the theme’s default Gallery block. When that setting is enabled, WordPress pulls photos directly attached to that specific post ID from the media database and lets the theme’s native layout engine render them cleanly—completely bypassing the broken manual block calculations!
